What are resort fees & taxes?
Taxes and fees are intended to include mandatory hotel or government-levied taxes and fees.
Resort Fees:
A resort fee is a fee charged in addition to the hotel room rate to cover hotel-specific services and amenities not included in the room rate. Resort fees are charged by resorts, casinos, and other hotels on a nightly basis, not per stay. They’re not optional and you have no choice but to pay them even if you choose not to use the amenities they cover.
Optional fees can’t be included in the total price by default.
Taxes:
Lodging tax requirements vary widely from state to state and even between different taxing jurisdictions within the same state.
A hotel operator is required to collect taxes and pay over any tax due to the Tax Department. Taxes may include Sales Tax, locally-imposed taxes on hotel occupancy administered by counties and cities (bed taxes) and, if applicable, the Municipal Occupancy Tax from an occupant.
